How Many of My Anticipated 2020 Releases Have I Read So Far?

Hi all!

I hope everyone is staying safe during these difficult times!

Well, seeing as its September, I thought it would be a good idea to see how well I’m doing at reading my most anticipated 2020 reads, and which books I still need to finish.

Anticipated 2020 releases

Books greyed out have been read already.

Cancer Ships Aquarius by Anyta Sunday: This is the fifth book in the Signs of Love series and I ADORED IT! I’m an Aquarius and the rep is so on point! The romance was also so lovely, not that I expected anything less from Sunday.

King and the Dragonflies by Kacen Callender: Wow, this was fantastic. It’s such a heartbreaking novel that made me cry buckets, but I’m so glad I read it. King was such a sweetheart, I just wanted to give him a big hug.

The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave: I didn’t expect to love this book so much but I did. It’s so dark and atmospheric, I couldn’t put it down. The sapphic romance developed so slowly and the novel had so much tension. I can’t wait to read more from Hargrave.

The Animals at Lockwood Manor by Jane Healey: This was phenomenal! It’s sort-of a horror, sort-of a thriller with a beautiful sapphic romance at the heart of it. I want to read it again.

Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare: I definitely enjoyed this book but probably more because the series is so nostalgic for me. This book felt like a long introduction to the characters, but I’m keen for the next novel in the series.

The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu: This is the first book I haven’t read on this list so far! I’ve read Lu’s The Young Elites trilogy and loved it, and this one appeals to me so much. I need to find time to read it this year.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune: I was so lucky to receive an ARC of this novel and it was STUNNING. It’s a little bit sad but mainly beautiful. I plan on rereading it soon.

The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin: This was so damn good. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read before, which is typical of Jemisin’s novels, and I can’t wait to read the other books in the series once they come out.

Bonds of Brass by Emily Skrutskie: I still haven’t read Bonds of Brass and I desperately want to. It’s basically Star Wars fan fiction about Finn and Poe and that’s all I need to know!

Slippery Creatures by KJ Charles: This is the first in a new romance trilogy by KJ Charles and to say I was anticipating it is an understatement. I LOVE KJ Charles’ books and this one was just as amazing as I thought it would be.

The Intoxicating Mr Lavelle by Neil Blackmore: I enjoyed this book but I wish it hadn’t ended so tragically. Other than that, it was a really engaging book.

Check, Please! Volume 2 by Ngozi Ukazu: I am ashamed that I haven’t read this book yet. I know I’m going to love it but I don’t want to finish it yet because I know it will make me cry.

The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune: I also got an ARC of this before it came out and LOVED it. TJ Klune can do no wrong!

Queen of Coin and Whispers by Helen Corcoran: I really wanted to enjoy this book but I just couldn’t get into it. It was slow, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it was so boring and I couldn’t differentiate between the two main characters’ voices.

The Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty: I adored this finale! It was wild and so much fun. Also, my two favourite characters sort-of end up together and I am still so happy about it.

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall: I never intended to read this but the more people talked about it, the more I started getting FOMO and started anticipating it. And thank god I read it, because it is FANTASTIC. I need to reread it ASAP.

Fence: Rivals by C.S. Pacat and Johanna the Mad: I love C.S. Pacat so much, so it’s a given I’d adore this new volume in the Fence series. Even so, it exceeded all my expectations and I loved it so much.

The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson: I have an ARC of this and still haven’t read it! I’m so ashamed. This book looks incredible and I know I’m going to love it.

The Lost Book of the White by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu: This is the second book in the Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane series and I know I’m going to love it. Alec is my favourite character in the Shadowhunter universe. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book.

The Memory of Souls by Jenn Lyons: I got an ARC of this a few months ago and read it in just a few days because it’s phenomenal. It’s so much fun and so freaking wild. Please read this chaotic series!

Darius the Great Deserves Better by Adib Khorram: I didn’t realise this book was out already! I need to get my hands on a copy and read it soon. I love the first book and know I’m going to love this one just as much.

Iron Heart by Nina Varela: This is the sequel to Crier’s War and I just know it’s going to be amazing. The first book was so incredible, I have no doubt this one will be too.

The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi: This is the sequel to The Gilded Wolves and I feel like I’ve been waiting for it for years. I loved the first book and I’ve heard just as good things about The Silvered Serpents.

Fence: Striking Distance by Sarah Rees Brennan: I couldn’t believe it when I got an ARC of this novel, but wow I am so freaking lucky that I did! Y’all are not ready for how amazing this book is! I think I’m going to read it again soon.

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik: I’m so down for this! It’s going to be my first Naomi Novik novel and I can’t wait to get my hands on it — it’s a feminist fantasy, heck yeah!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab: I can’t wait for this book! I like Schwab’s books but I’ve never become obsessed with them, but I’ve got a feeling I’m going to adore this novel.

Brothersong by TJ Klune: I CAN’T BELIEVE I GOT AN ARC OF THIS AND HAVE READ IT! It’s absolutely phenomenal — you’re all going to love it this finale.

They Never Learn by Layne Targo: This is a sapphic thriller about a woman who kills men and inserts herself into the investigation by dating the lead female detective! HELL YES. I can’t wait to read it.

Master of One by Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett: This fantasy book seems so amazing, it’s queer and its about the fey. Say no more, I need to read it.

The Betrayals by Bridget Collins: I don’t know much about this book but Bridget Collins is the author of one of my favourite novels, The Binding, so I’m going to be reading this regardless!

The Burning God by R.F. Kuang: This is the final novel in The Poppy War trilogy and I can’t wait for it! I know it’s going to be heartbreaking and probably kill me, but I’m down for it.

Here the Whole Time by Vitor Martins: This book came out a couple of years ago in Spanish and is being translated into English this year. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this novel and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!

So out of the 32 books on my most anticipated list, I have read 17! So that means I have 15 2020 books left to read before the end of the year!

I doubt I’m going to be able to read all of these books, but I’m definitely going to try my hardest!

What anticipated 2020 releases have you read or still have to read? Let me know!
