January Wrap Up: The Month I Got Out Of My Reading Slump

Hi all!

Wow, the first month of 2021 is already over! And damn, a lot happened during this month, hey? I’ve got a feeling February isn’t going to be any better, but for everybody’s sake, I hope it is. Especially because February is my birthday month!

Anyway, January was the month that I got my groove back with reading. I didn’t listen to a single audiobook this month, instead I read non-stop! I read a 400+ page in a day and one night and it was fantastic — felt like I was a teen again, who stayed up all night reading lol.

Book of the month

TW: past domestic violence, suggested non-consensual sex

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I read it in one night and a day, and it was glorious. Winter’s Orbit is about Prince Taam being forced to marry his distant cousin’s widower, Count Jainan, in order to protect a peace treaty after the death of Taam’s cousin. Both Taam and Jainan are determined to make the marriage work as a new peace treaty between their planets is about to be signed, but soon Jainan is listed as a main suspect in his deceased husband’s death. Even though Taam and Jainan start off on the wrong foot and miscommunication abounds between them, Taam is determined to prove his husband’s innocence.

Maxwell’s writing is so beautiful, and I love the way she developed the relationship between Taam and Jainan. They both really like each other but don’t know how to communicate that, especially because Jainan struggles to trust people due to trauma in his life. But the way they eventually come together is wonderful, and I highly recommend this book to everyone!

ARCs Received

I only got one ARC this month but damn, it’s a good one! I can’t wait to read Cat Sebastian’s newest historical romance!

Non-bookish stuff

This month, I didn’t watch much tv or movie wise, even though I had a list of things to watch. But I did manage to watch all three of the new Star Wars movies — VII, VIII, IX — over New Year’s Eve and Day. Don’t ask me why lmao. I love Star Wars VII, and I hadn’t seen the remaining two in a while. I actually liked them more the second time I watched it, which was surprising!

Then I watched the ABC two-part documentary The Story of Diana, which was fantastic. They really got deep into her life and how much the paparazzi harassed her. Her brother, Earl Spencer, participated in the documentary, and you can still see how deep his anger at her death is.
