Blogmas #16: 5 Authors I Discovered This Year

Hi all!

Welcome to Blogmas day 16! Today I’m going to be talking about five authors I discovered this year that I’m obsessed with … and am on a mission to read all of their books!

Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I read Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s Mexican Gothic this year and loved it! It’s creepy as hell, and so intense, but I could not put it down. Silvia has also written Gods of Jade and Shadow which I NEED to read soon. It’s a fantasy book about gods — my favourite trope. Can’t believe I haven’t read it yet! Moreno-Garcia also has a vampire novel coming out next year called Certain Dark Things which I’m so keen for!

Alexis Hall

I read Alexis Hall’s Boyfriend Material this year, the first of his books I’ve ever read, and now I need to read all of them! Boyfriend Material is so damn cute and fluffy, but also a bit angsty — which is my favourite combination. Hall has also written The Spires series, which includes Glitterland and For Real — both romances, but one is BDSM 👀. Hall has written dozens of books so it’s probably going to take me a while to get through them!

Katy Rose Pool

I read There Will Come a Darkness by Katy Rose Pool this year, and boy am I now obsessed. This is a cool YA fantasy about prophets that I can’t get out of my head — mainly because of how many plot twists there were. The second book in the series, As the Shadow Rises, came out late this year and I’m dying to read it! And then the finale Into the Dying Light will be out next year.

Kiran Millwood Hargrave

When I read The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave earlier this year, I immediately become obsessed. This gothic novel is so atmospheric and so freaking intense that I listened to the audiobook in about two days. Hargrave mainly writes YA books, including The Deathless Girls and Girl of Ink and Stars — both books I’m so excited to read. I need to find time next year to read them both!

Mo Xiang Tongxiu

I can’t believe I’ve read two of Mo Xiang Tongxiu’s novels this year as her books are BEASTS. Mo Dao Zu Shi is 1500 pages long and Tian Guan Ci Fu is 2000 pages long. The last book of hers I still need to read is The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System, which is over 1000 pages long! Haha I really have my work cut out for me 😅.

I really like Kiran Milwood Hargrave as an author. I think I have all her current books even though I’ve only read The Island at the End of Everything. I need to read her others and I’m interested to see how her style changes in her adult books.
