Silvia’s Questions

Would you rather spend one day in your favourite fantasy world but never meet the main characters of the story OR meet the characters from your favourite fantasy book but in our world?

42730332. sx318

Ooh, this is a hard one! First, I need to figure out what my favourite fantasy book is. This is so difficult because I have many favourite fantasy books, but in terms of amazing worlds, there’s only one that immediately comes to mind and that’s The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.

I would love to spend a day in this beautiful fantasy world, I wouldn’t care if I didn’t get to meet the beloved characters. This world is so fascinating — an underground library that’s been around for millennia — I would just have so much fun walking around and looking at everything.

Would you rather have a (friend) date with a villain you love or a protagonist you dislike?

Hahah, I think everyone already knows the answer to this! I’d much rather go on a date with a villain I love, any day of the week!

More specifically, I’d love to go on a date with Sebastian Morgenstern from Shadowhunters. I know he’s absolutely batshit but I love him. He’s such a fantastic villain and I would just want to talk to him 😅.

Would you rather have a massive book collection but they’re all paperbacks OR only have one small sized bookcase with only special editions of your favorite books?

I think I would pick the second option: only have a small bookcase with special editions of my favourite books. I don’t have the room for a massive collection and I don’t really want one. At this point, I only buy books from a series I’m reading and if it’s an author I’ve loved before. I hardly ever buy books from an author I’ve never read from, and if I do, it’s usually a cheap copy or a second-hand copy. So I much rather have a small collection of books I love (which I already do!) as opposed to a big collection of books I might not actually like.

Author spotlight interview – CS Pacat | Donna Maree Hanson, Author ...

Would you rather meet your favourite author or your favourite fictional character?

Well, my favourite author is C.S. Pacat and I’ve already met them many times as they also live in Melbourne, so I’d have to say meet my favourite fictional character! That would either be Damen or Laurent from Captive Prince.

Would you rather have a mediocre TV adaptation of your favorite book or no adaptation at all?

No adaptation at all! I watched as much of the CW’s Shadowhunters show as I could stomach, and it is so bad! I honestly rather have no adaptation if the writers are going to destroy everything I love about the book/s.

Would you rather never find another favourite book but read all four stars books OR find new favourites but all the rest are three stars and lower?

I think I’d prefer the first one: never find another favourite but read all four star books. This is because I HATE reading a bad book or a book I end up not liking, and I’d probably get really frustrated never reading a good book even if I do find the occasional favourite.

Would you rather try out one fictional dish or listen to one fictional musical composition?

Hmm, this is a tricky one, because I can’t think of any fictional musical compositions. So I’d have to try one fictional food and that would be nectar from Ancient Greek mythology. Nectar is supposed to be an amazing drink that only gods are allowed to drink, because it is supposed to make the drinker immortal. So hell yeah!

Would you rather be cast as the protagonist of an hypothetical adaptation of your favourite book OR be the one to adapt it for TV?

Ooh, this is a good one! I think I would rather be the one to adapt my favourite book for TV because I’d be annoyed being the star of a show that I end up not liking (and worse, other people don’t like it).

Where Is Drogon Taking Daenerys Targaryen's Body in the GoT Series ...

Would you rather make friends with a fictional pet or a fictional AI?

Definitely a fictional pet! I’d love to have Drogon from A Song of Ice and Fire as my pet … you know, the dragon! That’s because I just want to be Daenerys so much.

Would you rather read a “good” but poorly written ending or a “bad” but well written ending?

I would probably prefer to read a ‘good’ but poorly written ending because at the end of the day, I’m a sucker for a happy ending. I love books where the characters suffer and experience hardship, but I need them to have a happy ending.

My questions for you

  1. Would you rather only read physical books for the rest of your life or only audiobooks?
  2. Would you rather know all the spoilers before you start a book or never read the last chapter?
  3. Would you rather be stuck on a very long train/plane ride with a book you hate or no book at all?
  4. Would you rather read a book with a really bad ending or a book where your favourite character is killed off?
  5. Would you rather love a book everyone hates or hate a book everyone loves?
  6. Would you rather read books by your favourite author but they’re all really bad, or read books by an author you hate but they’re all really good?
  7. Would you rather only ever read contemporary books for the rest of your life or fantasy?
  8. Would you rather own a signed edition or a first edition?
  9. Would you rather never be able to borrow a book from the library again or never reread your favourite book?
  10. Would you rather spend the day in your favourite fictional world but never meet your favourite character, or spend the day as the villain and try to attack/kill that favourite character?

LOL. Accidentally sent the comment through without finishing. But those were some interesting questions! I definitely agree with you about the no adaptation thing. All these mediocre adaptations of our favorite books break my heart. I haven’t been able to get through one episode of Shadowhunters. Don’t like the casting or how much the story was changed. But Malec was done well from the clips I’ve watched!

Shadowhunters is so terrible, you’re not missing out on anything! I watched season 1 and it wasn’t too bad, but in season 2 they don’t even follow the books anymore 🙃 But yes Malec was cute, but even they weren’t enough to keep me watching lol

LOL, I thought as much. A shame, really. The shows could be so good, but I guess they can never be as good as the books. At least we’ll always have them to reread over and over again haha

I think I’d choose to have a friend date with a villain I love even if the other option was to have one with a protagonist I love lol. I think it would be way more interesting. And I’m always wary of book-to-movie adaptations, it’s very rare for any to satisfy me :((( my sister also watched the Shadowhunters series (she’s a BIG fan of the books) and said they weren’t anywhere as good. I really can’t think of any case in which a movie was better than the book 😂
