I hope everyone is doing well during these turbulent times. Today, I’ll be taking part in the WWW meme!
WWW Wednesday is a book meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. Basically, this tag involves answering the following questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you plan on reading next?
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I FINALLY got through that massive pile of books I was reading — 6, at one time! — and am finally on the very last book with only 170 pages left! So here it is, the final book I’m (still) reading:
I’m enjoying The City We Became but not as much as I thought I would. I still think it’s awesome but hardly anything has happened yet and it’s dragging a bit. It’s not boring, I just wish something would happen, but it definitely feels like it’s leading up to it.
WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH?
LMAO, what didn’t I finish?
Prince’s Gambit: One of my favourite books ever! This was a reread for me, and I already want to read it again haha. Would die for Laurent and Damen. 5 stars
Slippery Creatures: KJ Charles, the author, sent me an ARC of her newest novel (which comes out May 13) and I adored it! It’s such a fantastic historical pulp crime novel with a great m/m romance at the heart. The two love interests don’t technically get together in this, but there’s going to be two more books about them and I’m so keen! 5 stars
The Black God’s Drums: This was a novella I really enjoyed. It’s set in an alternate version of New Orleans in the 1800s where a scrappy young teenager overhears some important information about a kidnapped scientist and tries to sell that information to a captain … while also having the voice of a goddess in her ears. 4 stars
Upright Women Wanted: I really enjoyed this novella. It was another alternate history Western book about a group of librarians who travel around the South delivering books, and a young woman who joins up with them. There’s also non-binary rep in this! 4.5 stars
The Library of the Unwritten: I buddy read this with my friend Laura and we both enjoyed this so much! It’s such a fun adventure novel about Hell and a library in there full of unwritten books. The only thing I wanted from this was a romance (because I’m such a romance reader haha). 4.5 stars
Moon of the Crusted Snow: This was such a frightening read and I wouldn’t recommend it until after the pandemic is over because what happens in this novel is similar to what we’re going through now 😅. Not a virus, but all electricity shuts down and the country disintegrates. The book then follows a small Native American community trying to survive when a creepy white guy moves into town. 4.5 stars
Kings Rising: Last book in my reread! 😭😭😭 God, this book kills every time! Poor Laurent, my bb. 5 stars
(Also just realised I read 7 books last week, WOW.)
WHAT DO YOU PLAN ON READING NEXT?
I think it’s FINALLY time I read these books. I bought them on the day they came out — 3 March — and still haven’t read them!
I’m so excited for Chain of Gold because I’m Shadowhunter trash. But I’m also a bit apprehensive because I didn’t enjoy the final book in The Dark Artifices series. But so far everyone seems to love this, so I’m sure I will too!
I can’t believe I’m about to read another Sarah J. Maas novel but I’m weirdly intrigued by House of Earth and Blood. I’ve also seen really good reviews of this so colour me even more intrigued!
HAVE YOU READ ANY OF THESE BOOKS? WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING? WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO READ NEXT? LET ME KNOW!
