2019 Bookish Stats

Hi all!

I don’t normally write up a post about my book stats, but this year I decided to because I thought it would be a good way to gauge my reading. I’ve never given much thought to this before but I feel like I should! I always see fellow bloggers discussing their stats and thought I should join in on the fun!

This is the video that inspired me to think about my own stats:

Total number of books read:

200!

Woooooo, that is my best reading year ever!

Books read each month:

As you can see, my best reading month was June with a total of 28 books read (how the hell did I do that?) and my worst reading month was November with a total of 8 books read.

Star ratings:

This year is probably my best reading year ever, not just in terms of how many books I read, but in terms of the amount of 5 stars I gave. Now you can probably say I’m too easy to please, but actually I’m not. I have very high standards, so this year I read books that I was genuinely interested in.

Here are all the books I rated five stars:

Average star rating:

4.3

That seems very high but, then again, I rated a lot of books 5 stars!

Page count:

59,063 pages

Average page count per day:

161 pages

Genres:

Not surprised that I read mostly romance and fantasy books, as they’re my favourite genres. But I am surprised that I read so many contemporary books! I tend not to like contemporary, although I guess a lot of those were romance books.

You can’t see those very small categories, but they’re: Kids, Horror and Classics, which are about 1-2% of my reading each.

Rereads:

34 out of 200.

That’s quite a lot actually! That’s 17% of my reading for the whole year.

Age groups:

Types of books:

I think it’s good that I’m mainly reading books I already own — that includes physical books, eBooks and audiobooks. And by “free” I mean either books I downloaded for free on Amazon, or a webcomic I read for free online.

Not at all surprised that I read a lot of eBooks! And this is the first year I really started listening to audiobooks, and I’m pleasantly surprised I read so many.

Authors who were new to me:

92

Wow! Of all the books I read, almost half were by new authors to me. I’m quite surprised by this and hope that it continues, but I will like to read more backlist by authors I love. I want to make it a goal to read all of a favourite author’s books so I can definitively say they’re my favourite author.

Authors I read the most from:

Wow, I read a lot of books from TJ Klune! Not actually surprised by this number as I reread a lot of his books as audiobooks — some as much as three times in one year 😅.

Gender of authors:

Super happy that I mainly read from women this year! 11% for non-binary authors seems like a little, but it’s a massive increase from last year. I hope to read more books by non-binary authors this year too.

Backlist vs 2019 releases:

Happy that I’m focusing on a lot of backlist! I do enjoy reading new releases but I feel like backlist books should be more of a focus sometimes.

What are your bookish stats? How many books did you read? What was the author you read the most from? Let me know!
