Hi all!
Today I’m sharing my TBR for the #StartOnYourShelfathon, a 2020 star-themed readathon hosted and run by CW @ The Quiet Pond. The aim of this readathon is to read as many unread books on your bookshelf as you can between December 13, 2019 and December 31, 2020.
Excitinngly, CW has also given us a cute little mascot to help us read all of our unread books. His name is Castor the Star Collector, and we need to help him collect the stars he’s collected over the years that have since been lost — to do that, we need to read our books.
For every book that you read as part of the readathon, you collect a star that that’s added onto your ‘star map’. More information on the star maps can be found here.
Rules
- Join the StartOnYourShelfathon anytime between Dec 13, 2019 to Dec 31, 2020!

- Link back to this post so that others can find this readathon and join in.
My Goals
I know the aim of this readathon is to read every book you own, but I know what I’m like: I suck at readathons and I definitely won’t be able to commit to such a promise, so instead:
- I will read every book on my main bookshelf
- I will read all the books in my Kindle “Read ASAP” collection.
This is what my physical shelf looks like (although the books have changed since I took this photo):
My Physical TBR
Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor (3 books)
I’ve read the first book in this series and loved it, but never got around to finishing the series. So this series is my first priority.
- Godblind series by Anna Stephens (3 books)
I actually only own the first two books, but if I really like the books, I’ll buy the last one too.
- Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
I started this book and never finished it, which is a shame because I enjoyed it so much.
- A Conspiracy of Truths by Alexandra Rowland
I’ve been wanting to read this book since I first heard of it, so this is definitely another one I need to make a top priority.
The Persian Boy by Mary Renault
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Fire From Heaven, and I want to finish the series.
- Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman
Yeah, yeah, I know. But its on my shelf and I want to be able to say I’ve finally read it.
- The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett
Omg, this book has been on every readathon list I’ve ever had, so I just need to hurry up and read it already!
- The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
I loved The Secret History, so here’s hoping I love this just as much!
Moab is my Washpot by Stephen Fry
Omg, I have about 150 pages left in this book? And I never finished it? Why?
- Hunger by Roxane Gay
Definitely need to read this! I’ve always wanted to read a Roxane Gay book.
- The Princess Bride by William Goldman
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book and I’m very excited to read it. Especially because of this line: Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
- Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner
I can’t remember what this book is about at all, except its an old gay fantasy.
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I absolutely adored The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo so here’s hoping I love this one too!
- The White Hotel by D.M. Thomas
I don’t know much about this book except my friend told me it was super fucked up and that was enough for me to buy it.
- The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
This is a chunky boi, so here’s hoping I can read it! I’ve heard nothing but good things.
- I Hope You Get This Message by Farah Naz Rishi
I got this book as part of the Owlcrate box and I’ve heard such great things: especially for a sci-fi book, which I’m not the biggest fan of.
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
I’ve wanted to read this book since it came out so this is also a number one priority.
- The League of Extraordinary Gentleman by Alan Moore
I absolutely adore Alan Moore as a writer (my favourite is From Hell), so I’m very excited for this book.
- Los Nefilim series by T. Frohock
The lovely Ash sent me ALL FOUR BOOKS IN THIS SERIES BECAUSE SHE’S AMAZING and I really need to read them!
- Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
I can’t believe I still haven’t read this.
The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood
I’m really enjoying reading Atwood’s books and this retelling of The Odyssey from the perspective of Penelope has me intrigued.
- A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
I highly doubt I’ll read this chunky book, but we’ll see.
- Nightrunner books 4-7 by Lynn Flewelling
I loved the first three books in this series and I need to get my act together and finish it!
- There Will Come a Darkness by Katy Rose Pool
This book has everything I want in a fantasy novel, so I hope it lives up to my expectations!
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
Another book I started and never finished!
- The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
Another big book! Here’s hoping I can read it.
- Gentleman Jack by Anne Lister
These are Anne Lister’s diaries and I’m very excited to read them!
- Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
I’m late to the Good Omens party but I still want to read the book.
My eBook TBR
A Light Amongst Shadows by Kelley York and Rowan Altwood
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book and someone said it gives them the same kind of vibe as one of my favourite books … and of course I’ve forgotten which one lol.
- Sword Dance by A.J. Demos
I love historical gay novels! Also, KJ Charles, one of my favourite authors, said this was one of her favourite books of this year.
- Eromenos by Melanie J. McDonald
Another gay historical novel but this time from the perspective of my favourite emperor’s, Hadrian, lover, Antinous!
- Goodbye Paradise by Sarina Bowen
I think this book is about a cult? Maybe? Or it’s about religious people which is why it makes me think of cults haha. Anyway, secret romance, yes please!
Tell Them of Battles, Kings, and Elephants by Mathias Enard
This book is about Michelangelo and his time in Constantinople and it frankly looks amazing.
- Child of the Sun by Kyle Onstott and Lance Onstott
I clearly have a thing for Ancient World romances seeing as this is like the fourth one on the list so far.
- After the Eclipse by Fran Dorricott
This f/f book is recommended to me so many times, I need to hurry up and get to it.
- The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith
A library in hell and a book character run away, leading the librarian to go and find her. Yes.
Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger
Everyone loves this fantasy book and I want to know why!
- The Last True Poets of the Sea by Julia Drake
A f/f retelling of The Tempest, fuck yes.
- Silence of the Winter by Avery Blake
A LGBT YA book with a friendly ghost in it sounds super cute, I’m down for it.
- #Junkie by Cambria Herbert
So many GR friends seem to love this book and I’m super intrigued by the magazine element of it!
The Deep by Rivers Solomon
Holy crap, this book is about mermaids who are descended from Black women who were drowned at sea after they were kidnapped and put into slavery.
- No Regrets by Nicky James
This book seems like it’s going to break my heart, but I’m down for angst.
- The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon
I loved The Bone Season and I need to read the sequel soon!!
- A Lesson in Thorns by Sierra Simone
Omg, this book has been on my TBR since it came out! Everyone adores it and I have a feeling I will too.
In the Dream House: A Memoir by Carmen Maria Machado
This is a memoir about the abuse Machado experienced at the hands of her lover. It’s been hailed as an incredible book and I have an ARC of it.
- Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
Lesbian necromancers in space. That’s all I need to know.
- A Cordial Agreement by Ryan Loveless
A m/m erotica novel featuring asexual main characters!
- Bully by Chase Connor
No idea what this book is about but I heard its kinda dark and I’m down for that.
The Afterward by E.K. Johnston
Silvia freaking adores this book so I will read it for her … at some point.
- The Prep and the Punk by Imogene Kash
Another book I don’t know much about — I think it’s set at a private school? I just remember a friend of mine raving about it!
- The Traitor Baru Commorant by Seth Dickinson
I’ve heard amazing things about this queer fantasy novel. I don’t know much about it because I don’t want to, but I’m pretty sure it’s f/f.
- Withered + Sere by T.J. Klune
I’m working my way through Klune’s books and I’m super intrigued by his only dystopian book.

I’d like to read Steel Crow too. Other than that, I’ve read Laney Taylor and Sorcery of thorns. The rest, well, most I never heard of 😉
