My Favourite 2019 Blogging Moments Tag

Hi all!

Today I’m introducing an original tag that’s about appreciating all the very hard work us bloggers have put in this year: the My Favourite Blogging Moments tag!

screen-shot-2019-11-22-at-8.40.13-pm-e1574415838606.png

I don’t think we spend enough time admiring our own work even though we spend hours and hours working on a single post — one blog post, my Buzzfeed Unsolved readathon, took me four months to work on and write up. And I for one think we should gush about all of our amazing posts and accomplishments.

So I’ve written up a series of questions for everyone to answer that focus on your blog posts and all the work you’ve done. Please participate and show off your work!

Rules:

  1. All the answers must be about your blog posts
  2. Please link the original creator of the tag so I can see all your posts!
  3. You don’t have to provide just one post for each question, you can provide as many as you want so long as they were written in 2019
  4. If you haven’t written a post that matches one of the questions, choose one that relates to it as close as possible
  5. Tag 5+ bloggers to they can share their accomplishments too! And make sure you read the posts they share!

What’s your favourite book review?

Review: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

39834986._SX318_I absolutely adored The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, it’s easily the best book I’ve read this year. And I was so lucky to be given an ARC of it by Penguin Australia. Because I loved this book so much, I wanted to make sure my book review did the book justice. I worked really hard on this review and I think I did a really good job! The Starless Sea is definitely my favourite review that I wrote in 2019!

“The Starless Sea is a book about Fate and Time, about the moon and the sun, and about people falling in love and people falling out of time. This book is about pirates and painters, about cats that might be able to talk, about monarchical owls and bees looking for the hero of this story. But most of all, this book will remind people why they fell in love with reading in the first place. As Morgenstern says, ‘We are all stardust and stories.'”

What’s your favourite discussion post?

Discussion: Why You Should Get Rid of Your Books

Screen Shot 2019-08-31 at 9.52.49 pmMy favourite discussion post that I wrote this year was a little controversial as I basically told everyone to get rid of their books! Haha, I don’t mean all of them, but I definitely mean a good portion. Personally, I’ve never understood keeping books that you don’t like, or you don’t plan on reading anymore — I can see why some people do, but my outlook on everything, and my mental health, has improved so much since I started getting rid of old books I don’t want/like anymore.

“While a book can transport you to a new world or be there for you during a difficult time, at the end of the day, it’s just some pages glued together and bound. It’s a material object that doesn’t actually have a bearing in your life. I love my books — I really, really do — but I just don’t think its viable to keep around a bunch of books you don’t like anymore. Get rid of them by donating them or selling them, and then begin to learn to buy books you 100% know you’re going to love!”

What’s your favourite fun post?

(By “fun post” I mean a post that doesn’t fall under a particular category like reviews, discussions or tags do.)

Thank U Next: Books I Hate That Everyone Else Seems To Love

giphy-3I absolutely love this fun post that I created where I discuss all the books I really, really dislike that everyone else in the book community seems to love … using an Ariana Grande song to help. I had a lot of fun writing this post up and also trying to figure out my most hated books. I’m not a reader that dislikes many books — if I have a feeling I’m not going to enjoy a particular book, I just don’t read it — so it took me a while to find these books but I finally did! And I still hate them just as much as I did earlier this year. Sorry in advance to anyone who likes Autoboyography lmao.

“Imagine going to your job. Now imagine helping someone at your job, a complete stranger with whom you’ve had a couple of minute-long conversations with. Now imagine them writing a fucking romance about you — how you meet, how you fall in love, how you’re thinking about having sex. Is that not the creepiest thing imaginable?? I GOT SECOND-HAND EMBARRASSMENT FROM THIS. That’s not cute, people; that’s weird.”

What’s your favourite book recommendation post?

Book Recommendations Based On Zodiac Signs

Screen Shot 2019-11-22 at 7.00.10 pmThis book rec post took me almost five days to complete because I had to do so much research! First I had to read up on the different zodiac signs, write a little explanation of each of them, and then go through my Goodreads shelves and find books (or characters) that match the signs. And it was so much fun! Even though this post was a lot of hard work, it was worth it in the end and I love how it came out.

What’s your favourite book/bookish photo?

I have a couple of favourite photos, I couldn’t choose just one!

Screen Shot 2019-11-22 at 7.03.28 pm

I took this photo for my five star review of The Starless Sea and it is definitely one of the best photos I’ve ever taken! The sun was so pretty that day and hit my book so lovely.

Screen Shot 2019-11-22 at 7.03.49 pm

I use an app to get the pretty highlights on my photo and was scrolling through when I randomly found a filter that make the images on the Harry Potter books stand out so much, that I actually screamed (look at the green eyes of the snake on The Chamber of Secrets)! And then add the sun spots at the bottom of the photo which look like magic to me.

I took this photo to commemorate getting all my Captive Prince books back! For those of you who don’t know, for about a year and a bit I thought I lost my self-published copy (the white book with the red writing at the top-right of the photo) and when I got the book back, I was so happy! And yeah I know I own a lot of copies of these books — and they’re all signed!

What’s your favourite original idea/blog post?

#UnsolvedAThon: A Buzzfeed Unsolved Readathon

54278067_618578695275604_4672267876462231552_nThis post took me four months to create, and no matter how tired I was by the end of it, it’s still the best damn thing I’ve ever done on this blog and I’m so proud of it. I love Buzzfeed Unsolved so much I wanted to create a readathon around it, but I wasn’t very good at drawing up a bingo board, so my incredible, beautiful amazing friend Scathiee so kindly did it for me and the result was AMAZING. Still in shock over it, tbh.

What’s your absolute favourite blog post you wrote this year?

I couldn’t choose just one post!

Weirdly Specific Things I Like In Books

I definitely love this post of mine because it’s basically just me discussing everything I love in books and what, I think, will make me more likely to rate a book 5 stars. This isn’t a list of my favourite tropes, it’s more a collection of ‘things’ I’ve noticed that I tend to love in books — like gods that are actually aliens, or books about space that are not set in space.

Special Editions of Books I Own (That I Won’t Let Anyone Read)

I wrote this post after I got my Captive Prince book back because I was so happy and I wanted to share photos of all the other amazing books I own. And also as a reminder to myself to never, ever, ever, EVER lend someone a special, signed book again. NEVER, LAURA!

Have you reached any blogging achievements this year?

Yes, I have! Just a few weeks ago, I posted my 500th blog post which is amazing! I started this blog three years ago to talk about books, but didn’t think that, years later, I’d still be going let alone posting FIVE HUNDRED POSTS!

EIC-hlrUwAAPF20

I also reached 900 followers, which is awesome! I’m just 100 away from 1000 which just boggles the mind. Still can’t believe so many people care about me rambling on the internet. Love you all 💛

I love, love, love this post Laura! I just love how positive it is!! I have read all of your posts mentioned above and I would have to say that the one that resonated with me the most was ‘Why you should get rid of your books’. That post has pretty much been in my head since I read it. I think it’s so amazing that you have done 500 blog posts, that is honestly such a great achievement!!!!

You always come up with so many different things to write about, and I always enjoy your posts. You are a wonderful blogger, and I’m so excited to see what you think up next year xx

This is such an amazing tag, I really love that idea. You’re right that we don’t take nearly enough time to reflect on our work and all the things we did and it’s important to do so, too. ❤
Thank you so, so much for tagging me, I'm hoping to do this before the end of the year!! ❤
