May TBR: My Followers Choose My TBR … Here’s What You Chose!

Hi all!

So a week or so ago, I posted a blog post asking you all to choose my TBR for me for May, with a whole bunch of polls to you to choose from.

Thank you all so much for voting on the polls! I’m so excited with the books that have been chosen and can’t wait to read them!

Here’s my TBR for May that you all chose:

Recent purchase:

I’m so glad this book was chosen! Firstly, I’ve wanted to read it ever since Sakhile recommended it to me; secondly, it’s a novel in verse and I haven’t read a book like this in ages (also its short and you guys chose some big books this month); and thirdly, look how gorgeous that cover is! I’m a sucker for pretty book covers.

New to me author:

YES! I can’t wait to read this book! I’ve seen so many friends rave about this book for ages, and I’ve borrowed it from the library like three times before but never got around to reading it, so I’m so excited to finally give it a go. Also, I heard that this book — or maybe it’s the series — has a polyamorous relationship? So freaking keen!

Next book in the series:

I read the first book in this duology, Reign of the Fallen, back in February and intended to pick up the sequel straight away but then a whole bunch of releases came out and I didn’t get a chance. So I’m very excited to finally be finishing this series!

Book that’s been on my TBR for a while:

This one was very close for a while, but eventually Stalking Jack the Ripper won out! I’ve been curious about this book for a long time now and I’ve heard mixed things. But I’ve also heard there’s a very lovely romance in it, so very excited!

Classic:

This was a hard category! I was watching the results for days and it remained a tie, so I was forced to go to Twitter to get a secondary vote. And for a while there it looked like Twitter was going to give me another tie, but eventually The Handmaid’s Tale won out!

Out of my comfort zone:

I honestly don’t know how I’m going to feel about this book, but its short so I’m glad you all chose it! A friend of mine really loves this book but all I know is it’s a dystopian novel with a Tragic White Boy™ as the main character. So, we’ll see.

Audiobook:

This was another tie! I couldn’t believe it! So again I took to Twitter, and thankfully they gave me an answer: Into the Drowning Deep. I tried reading Into the Drowning Deep back in January and kind of DNF’d it, but I’ve heard the audiobook is amazing so I want to give it another chance.

Non-fiction:

I’m glad this book was chosen! I’ve been wanting to read it for ages, even I’ve heard both good and bad things about it. It’s actually one of the first ever true crime novels.

Book by an author of colour:

I’m so glad Long Way Down won! I started this book last year and never got around to finishing it, and I don’t know why. It’s a novel in verse which makes me even more excited.

Book with queer representation:

Thankfully, Starworld won in this poll. My copy is actually an ARC and I haven’t got around to reading it yet 😅 so at least next month it get to cross off an ARC.

Reread:

YAY! In Other Lands is literally one of my novels of all time so I’m very excited to be reading it again! I managed to buy an audiobook version of this novel so I might listen to it.
