Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I hope whatever you’re doing today — whether you’re celebrating or not — you’re having an amazing day!
I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas movies, but I absolutely adore Rise of the Guardians. If you haven’t watched this movie, honestly what are you waiting for?? It has everything you could ever want in a Christmas movie, loveable characters, an amazing storyline, and a rich setting. I watch this movie every single year for Christmas. Forget The Nightmare Before Christmas or The Grinch. Rise of the Guardians is the Christmas movie you want to be watching.

Jackson Overland a.k.a. Jack Frost:
Name an icy character that is actually very loveable and sweet
I think the obvious answer to this question is my love, Laurent VI of Vere from the Captive Prince series. As you all know I adore this series, Laurent is my favourite character (along with Damen) for many reasons. He has some amazing character development in each novel. In the first book, he starts off very cruel and cold. He’s, frankly, a horrible person and almost everyone calls him an “Ice Prince”. But as the novel develops, and as Damen comes to know Laurent, Laurent is actually very sweet and precious. He’s not as cruel as he’s made out to be, rather he has to act that way if he has any chance of surviving in his uncle’s court.
Nicholas St. North a.k.a Santa Claus:
Name a fun and jolly character that could actually cut a bitch
Definitely Sam from Tales From Verania. And Gary. And Tiggy. And basically everyone in that book series, but I’m going to stick with Sam right now. Sam is the most powerful wizard of any age: he doesn’t even have to think a magical spell before his body naturally performs it, and he is destined to defeat the world’s most powerful wizard. He’s powerful, yeah, but he’s also the softest little cinnamon roll. This boy doesn’t want a destiny and doesn’t want this much power: he just wants to hang with his friends, make his mentor proud, and love his boyfriend, the Knight Commander Ryan Foxheart. But, that being said, you threaten anything or anyone he loves and he turns into evil Sam, the Sam who will 100% cut a bitch — by exploding their nipples — if you hurt his loved ones.
Toothiana a.k.a. The Tooth Fairy:
Name a loveable book that is dear to your heart (and is so sweet it gives you a tooth ache!)
If you haven’t read In Other Lands, then what are you doing? Stop everything, even if you’re eating Christmas turkey, and get a copy of this book immediately! In Other Lands is the cutest and most adorable novel I’ve ever read. It’s about a highly excitable and judgmental 13 year old bisexual boy named Elliot who is invited to magical school. There, over the next few years, Elliot makes life-long friends, falls in and out of love, and manages to save the world multiple times. I love Elliot so much because he’s a lot like me: he’s loud, a little crass, kind of sad sometimes and very judgemental. He likes to complain about a lot of things, which is peak me. If you get the chance, read this book ASAP. Start the new year with a smile and fall in love with this book!
Sanderson Mansnoozie a.k.a. The Sandman:
Name a book that put you to sleep (figuratively or literally)
While I loved Fingersmith, the book is long as hell and did put me to sleep at some points! The book is remnant of Charles Dickens in style, but queered which I love. It’s about two women, one of whom, named Sue, is working with a man who intends to steal the other girl’s fortune by marrying her and putting her into a mental institution. But complications arise when Sue begins to fall in love with the other girl. There are so many plot twists in this massive book it’s almost too hard to keep track, but holy hell it’s amazing. That being said, it’s just too damn long and the descriptions of unimportant things could go on for a very, very long time. By the end of the book, I just wanted it to be over despite the fact that I mostly enjoyed reading it.
E. Aster Bunnymund a.k.a. The Easter Bunny:
Name a book that fills you with hope
This is probably a highly subjective question so take it as you will. I’m taking it as a book that leaves me feeling hopeful by the end of it, even in my own life. And that is definitely On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. The main character, Taylor, has had such a crappy life, being abandoned by her mother at the age of 11 and then, years later, by her pseudo-mother, but even so she is filled with so much hope and love. Not at the beginning of the novel, it definitely takes her a while to get there, but through the help of her friends and her eventual boyfriend, she gets there. I adore this book so much — it makes me so happy and hopeful by the end of it. And I’ve read it four times.
MiM a.k.a. The Man in the Moon
Name a wise character that acts as a mentor/parental figure
Now, Seregil from Nightrunner starts the series off as Alec’s mentor/parental figure, but by the end of it, they become lovers. I haven’t finished the entire series yet, but Seregil is very important to Alec and vice versa. They really depend on one another, especially when they find themselves getting into situations where they have to escape. Seregil probably isn’t as wise as he likes to think of himself, but he definitely helps Alec and is in the role of that mentor/parental figure. In fact, in book one, Seregil is given a prophecy about his and Alec’s relationship. It says: “Father, brother, friend, and lover.” I can’t wait to read the rest of the series to see how they go from mentor and student, to friends, to lovers.
Pitch Black a.k.a. The Nightmare King:
Name a villain / antihero that you can’t help but love
Please don’t hate me on what I’m about to say but I really do love Jonathan/Sebastian Morgenstern from The Mortal Instruments series. I can’t help it! I love a really well written villain and so far, he’s the best I’ve come across. Sebastian is a massive psychopath, what with having demon blood inside of him, and he’s a possessive asshole who doesn’t understand boundaries and when people don’t want to spend time with him, but I have to give the guy props for almost destroying the world — and getting further than his father, Valentine did. I’m also fascinated by him, his thoughts and his psyche. He made for a genuinely scary villain, far more than Valentine ever was. And I also loved seeing him briefly in Queen of Air and Darkness. No other villain can compare!
