My Most Anticipated 2019 Releases

2019 is just around the corner! Can you believe?? I can’t. But to get me excited for the new year, I thought I’d share my most highly anticipated releases for 2019! Some of these titles are YA, some are adult — but I hope you get to find your next great read here, regardless!

36307634The first book in a new series about King Nikolai Lantsov, from the Shadow and Bone series.

Nikolai has hidden what happened to him during his country’s civil war — and now, as enemies gather at the Ravka borders, Nikolai must forge alliances and stop a threat to the Grisha Army.

But every day, dark magic grows stronger within him. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai must journey to where magic survives in his country and defeat the legacy inside him.

Expected publication: January 29, 2019

King of Scars is easily my most anticipated novel of 2019. I love Nikolai so much, every since he first appeared in the Shadow and Bone series. I hope this book is as amazing as I think it will be!

Ryann Bird dreams of travelling to outer space, but for a girl who lives in a trailer park, that isn’t an option. So Ryann settles and begins skipping school to hang out with her delinquent friends. One day she meets Alexandria, and after an accident, the two girls become close — and Ryann learns Alexandria’s secret: Alexandria’s mother is an astronaut who volunteered for a one-way trip to the edge of the solar system.

Every night, Alexandria waits to hear radio signals from her mother, while day by day, Ryann and Alexandria’s friendship slowly grows into something more.

Expected publication: March 19, 2019

The Weight of the Stars is K. Ancrum’s second novel, and I completely adore The Wicker King, and I just know I’m going to love this one too. After all: space lesbians!

The Berethnet family has ruled Inys for a thousand years. The unwed Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter in order to protect her kingdom from destruction, but assassins creep closer.

Ead Duryan is an outsider at court. Although she has risen to the position of lady-in-waiting, she works for a secret society of mages. Ead keeps an eye on the queen, protecting her with illegal magic. While across the sea, Tané trains to be a dragonrider, but is forced to make a choice that changes her life forever. And the East and West refuse to parley, and chaotic forces are rising.

Expected publication: February 26, 2019

The Priory of the Orange Tree is a new book from Samantha Shannon, and although I haven’t read her previous series (although I have the first book), I’m super excited for this book. I mean, it features an all-female cast, and look how gorgeous the cover is!

Cassandra Clare teams up with Wesley Chu in a new trilogy about the High Warlock Magnus Bane and his boyfriend Alec Lightwood, after they survive the Mortal War.

Magnus Bane has possession of the Book of the White, a powerful spell book of dark magic, and many supernatural creatures want it for themselves.

After the Mortal War, Magnus and Alec celebrate their survival by leaving New York and touring the world, but problems follow them no matter where they go.

Expected publication: April 2, 2019

I’m so ridiculously excited for the new Magnus and Alec series, beginning with The Red Scrolls of Magic, because they’re literally my favourite couple in the Shadowhunter books. I feel a strong connection with Magnus, so I hope this book is as amazing as it looks!

Sixteen-year-old Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time — or at the very least, make it out of her neighbourhood one day. She is the daughter of an underground rap legend who died before he made it big, so she’s certain of her direction in life.

But then her mum unexpectedly loses her job, and dealing with food banks and shutoff notices become the norm. As homelessness begins to stare her family down, Bri doesn’t just want to make it big — she has to.

Expected publication: February 5, 2019

I feel like we’ve all been patiently waiting for Angie Thomas’ second novel, On the Come Up, and I am so very excited for this book as I’m so interested in rap and hip hop history (don’t ask me to name any songs though).

In 1979, Daisy Jones and the Six split up, after redefining 1970s rock music. This book is an attempt to piece together the band’s rise to fame and their abrupt and infamous break up.

It’s a compilation of interviews, emails, transcripts, and lyrics from the personal and professional lives of the band members. While it’s impossible to discover the truth behind the band’s split, this book attempts that very thing.

Expected publication: March 5, 2019

While Daisy Jones and the Six isn’t something I’d usually be interested, Taylor Jenkins Reid is an incredible writer and has this way of drawing you in and making you care about her characters. So I’m actually very interested in seeing what she does here!

Apparently. this book has already been optioned as a mini series by Reese Witherspoon! Read more here.

A story that reimagines the consequences of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

After the tempest, Miranda was meant to become Queen of Naples; instead, she finds herself in Milan, in her father’s castle, surrounded by servants who treat her like a ghost, whispering about her dead mother. While Milan is once again rife with Prospero’s dark arts, Miranda and her only companion, Dorothea, must solve the mystery about what happened to her mother and discover the truth about her father.

Expected publication: March 26, 2019

Miranda in Milan is supposed to be an f/f historical romance, so to say I’m excited for it would be an understatement. I’ve never read a book — let alone a queer book — set in Italy (especially in a place that’s not Rome or Venice), and I think it’s going to be amazing.

37592173When Rosie first met Jimmy, she walked away from her life in Sydney, including the house on Dalhousie that her father, Seb, rebuilt for his family but never completed. Two years later, Rosie returns to the house and living there is Martha, whom Seb married less than a year after the death of Rosie’s mother. Martha is struggling to fulfil Seb’s dream of completing the house, and so begins a stand-off between the two women who both refuse to move out of the house they both lay claim to.

And then Jimmy re-enters Rosie’s life, who has always watched other families on the perimeter, but is now grappling with forming one of his own.

Expected publication: April 2, 2019

I’m very excited for The Place on Dalhousie, because I absolutely adore Melina Marchetta’s books. She’s my favourite Australian author ever.

39897058In the former United States, Noam Álvaro is the sole survivor of the viral magic that killed his family and made him a technopath: the ability to control technology. This ability attracts the attention of the minister of defence, who thrusts Noam into the magical elite nation of Carolinia.

The son of undocumented immigrants, Noam has spent most of his life fighting for the rights of refugees who were feeling magical outbreaks, while Carolinia is known for deporting them. Noam is determined to use his powers for good and secretly help refugees by accepting the minister’s offer to teach him magic, to then work against the government. But then, Noam meets the minister’s son and begins to fall in love. Caught between what he knows is right and his heart, Noam must decide how far he’s willing to go for the greater good.

Expected publication: March 1, 2019

Originally, I wasn’t too excited for The Fever King but many mutuals seem to love it, and once I read the blurb properly, I got obsessed. I already feel like I’m going to love Noam.

Sera has always felt as though she didn’t belong among her people, the Cerulean. She is far too curious and continually questions her three mothers, her best friend, and even the High Priestess. Sera longs for the day the tether that connects her City Above the Sky to the earthly world below to snap and send the Cerulean to another planet.

But then Sera, like many girls before her, is chosen as a sacrifice in order to break the tether. To do so, she has to throw herself from the edge of her city and end her own life. But when she does so, she survives the fall and lands in a place called Kaolin, run by humans. She is fascinated by the humans, but soon she learns that the dangers her mothers always warned her about are true. And if Sera wants to return home, she has to find the magic in herself to survive.

Expected publication: February 5, 2019

The Cerulean looks wild. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a book like The Cerulean before. I love the idea of a sapphic society that lives in the sky, and maybe even aliens and other sci-fi elements.

The sequel to Of Fire and Stars.

Princess Denna and Princess Mare are together and in love at last. Mare just wants to settle down with the girl she loves, but Denna has a destiny. But after they arrive in Zurmorda, a town is attacked and Mare’s diplomatic skills are now needed. Mare has to broker an alliance with the Zumordan queen to protect her own kingdom. As Denna’s powers grow stronger, Mare becomes suspicious of the queen. As tensions rise and unexpected betrayals occur, Mare and Denna must find away to protect their love and save their kingdoms.

Expected publication: August 13, 2019

I’m so excited for Of Ice and Shadows, as I completely adored the first book. Mare and Denna are gorgeous characters, and I can’t wait to see them fall in love even more in this novel.

In Starworld, the girls find adventures, kindness and understand — and they see each other for who they truly are. But once Sam begins to fall for Zoe, the universe they share might implode.

Expected publication: April 16, 2019

Another Audrey Coulthurst novel, but Starworld is contemporary. Coulthurst is now a must-read author for me. Starworld looks so beautiful, and I just know I’m going to cry my eyes out.

40139305

For the first ten years of her life, Jana was just a simple Czech girl. Her days were controlled by the Czechoslovakian State Security, who snapped photos in their plainclothes. So much artwork was created of people who worked against the government. Then a young girl named Zorka comes along.

What she doesn’t know is that her wife is lying dead in that room. As Aimée and Jana’s stories circle through time and place, they lead inexorably together …

Expected publication: January 3, 2019

Virtuoso is a literary novel and it seems so beautiful but also heartbreaking. Regardless, I’m here for it. I want to know more.
