Hi all!
I’ve decided, last minute, to join the Contemporary-A-Thon reading challenge, a readathon where you read contemporary novels for a week. The challenge is co-hosted by Chelsea, Julie and Natasha and will run from September 17th to September 23rd.
I’m really excited for the readathon because you can double up or triple up books for each challenge or, you could even just read one book (if it fits all the challenges). ALSO — there’s no policing for this challenge, so if you think a book meets the challenge then you can add it to your TBR.
The challenges:
Read a contemporary book with an orange cover:
I really want to read Alice Oseman’s newest novel but I haven’t been in the mood since it came out. I don’t know if I’ll be in the mood during this challenge, but it’s the only book on my TBR that has an orange cover.
Read a dark/spooky contemporary book:
I have an ARC of this book and am super excited to read it! It’s a contemporary version of Dracula with m/m and f/f relationships!
Read a diverse contemporary book:
Soft on Soft is a fluffy f/f romance and has tons of diversity: middle eastern MC (Aran-Persian), black love interest, demisexuality, fat, pansexuality, anxiety. Super excited for this!
Read a contemporary book that is in a non-traditional format:
This is the second book in the Criminal Intentions series by Cole McCade, and the all of the books work as episodes for a season of a tv show. So each book is what will happen in one episode, which means this will be a massive series. I’m excited!
Read a contemporary book with your initials on the cover:
My initials are LBC and I spot an L, B, and a C on this cover! So, yeah.
Read a contemporary book from a new to you author:
I know Em Ali is a debut author, but there’s no book on my immediate TBR by a completely new to me author, so I’m using her.
Read a contemporary book that is a 5-star prediction:
I’m really excited for this book because the author wrote it in the span of like five days to get back at the author/star of the ‘Cockygate’ controversy. Read this.
THat’s my TBR!
Are you joining in on the Contemporary-A-Thon? If you are, let me know and link your TBRs below!
I actually read His Cocky Valet even though I don’t usually read romance. I didn’t know it was a response to Cockygate until I read the Author’s Note afterward. That just made the entire book so much better haha. I enjoyed it for the most part. I really hope you do too!

This sounds like a lot of fun! I hope you manage to read all of those in a week, even though that’s a lot of books :O I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you, Laura, you can do this 👊
Also, what in the actual hell?? Trademarking a word??? Is that woman insane or just out of touch with reality because, really 🙄 I shouldn’t be surprised but I am. I’m glad everyone fought back and got their “cocky” back, though 😂 (Major highfive to McCabe for writing a book in five days!!!)
