Hi all!
So I’m finally back from my hiatus!!! šš¼
And I thought a great way to return to active blogging is through a book tag!! I saw this tag over on Kay @ Hammock of Books‘ blogĀ – everyone please go check out Kay’s amazing blog!
1. How many books is too many in a series?Ā
Anything over three, in my opinion! If you can’t tell your story in three books, then it’s too long — looking at you SJM. (Lol, I say this like I’m not planning a four-book series myself.)
2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?Ā
As a reader, I hate them. As a writer, I love them.
3. Hardback or paperback?Ā
Paperback. for sure!! Hardback novels look nice, but they’re so cumbersome to carry around because they’re so heavy!
4. Favourite book?
If anyone can’t already guess, then you don’t know me.
5. Least favourite book?Ā
LolitaĀ by Vladimir Nabokov. Before anyone comes at me with the usual “BuT iTs SUppoSeD tO mAkE yOu uNcomForTaBLe” — I know that. And I still hate this book. Also, read this.
6. Love triangles, yes or no?
Depends how they’re done! Usually authors butcher them, but Cassandra Clare’sĀ Infernal DevicesĀ series does it so well!
7. The most recent book you just couldnāt finish?Ā
I was so lucky enough to receive an ARC ofĀ Running with LionsĀ by Julian Winters, but I just couldn’t finish this book. I’m so upset to say I really didn’t enjoy this book: I just can’t get past the very awkward writing and the even more awkward characters.
I’m going to try my hardest to finish this book, but I’ll be waiting until it’s published first (so I don’t screw up the book’s ratings on GR).
8. A book youāre currently reading?
Of Fire and StarsĀ by Audrey Coulthurst! It’s so lovely so far!
9. Last book you recommended to someone?Ā
Leah on the OffbeatĀ by Becky Albertalli.
I recommended this to my close friend when we walked past it in a bookstore.
I pointed it out to her and mentioned how much I really enjoyed it, and she bought it immediately! She ended up loving it too! šš¼
10. Oldest book youāve read?Ā
The IliadĀ by Homer. According to Goodreads, this book (not a book back then but you get my drift) was around about 750 BCE!
11. Newest book youāve read?Ā
Not including ARCs, it would beĀ Fence #6Ā by C.S. Pacat. Including ARCs, that would be My Plain JaneĀ by Cynthia Hand,Ā Jodi Meadows and Brodi Ashton, which comes out June 26, 2018.
12. Favorite author?Ā
If anyone needs to ask, again you don’t know me! Definitely C.S. Pacat. She just has a way with words that draws me in as a reader.
She is also really amazing at creating tension, and making subtle things obvious to the reader without it being apparent to the characters.
13. Buying books or borrowing?Ā
Hmm. I don’t really like this question. It doesn’t take into consideration the fact that not everyone has a steady income and can afford books, or even have much access to them in their country. Same as a library.
14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?Ā
The Upside of Unrequited!Ā
I really don’t get the hype over this book!
I felt that there was no plot, the characters were incredibly annoying, and the writing was disappointing too.
15. Bookmarks or dog ears?Ā
I think people can do whatever they want with their books, but I prefer bookmarks! I have a massive collection at home. Surprisingly, I don’t mind dog-earring library books, but mine are a big no-no.
16. A book youāll always reread?
Kings RisingĀ by C.S. Pacat. It’s such an amazing conclusion to an incredible series.
It makes me cry, laugh and freak out. I love seeing my loves Damen and Laurent as they balance new information about each other, and I adored watching them fall in love.
I just love this book to bits.
17. Can you read while listening to music?Ā
NO!!!!
I can’t concentrate at all.
18. One POV or multiple POVs?
Ooh, this really depends on the genre of the book, but I tend to prefer multiple POVs. Especially, when it comes to romance novels: I like to have two POVs, one for each love interest.
19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?Ā
This depends in the kind of mood I’m in and the book! Sometimes, I can definitely read a book in one site: they’re usually romance books, because they’re not terribly difficult to read. But a fantasy or sci-fi book, which is usually over 300 pages, takes me a few days to get through.
20. A book you read because of the cover?Ā
Story time!! The whole reason I even started this series – which has become my favourite YA series EVER – is because I kept seeing it everywhere I went, when I was in high school. This book – and the second book City ofĀ AshesĀ – were literally stalking me: I saw it in every bookstore I went into, and then I started seeing it in stores that sell other things like Target and Big W. Eventually, I cracked it, shouted ‘Fine!Ā I’ll buy you!’, in the middle of Borders (an Aussie bookstore that has since closed down). People looked at me strangely. I would too, if I had seen someone yelling at a book.
It all worked out in the end!
I tag

Love your answers ā¤ Haha I'm too intimidated to start the Throne of Glass series since there are just so many books!! I absolutely hate love triangles, but I have heard others say that Cassandra Clare does it well, and since I haven't read any of her books, I have to admit, I'm intrigued to see if fabulous writing can overcome my hatred xD

Thank you!! Cassie Clare is my favourite YA author and she really pulls off the love triangle well! If you ever want to give her books a try, definitely start with The Infernal Devices š

I loved reading your answers and I agree paperbacks are so much better than hardbacks! The material girl in me use to buy them because of how nicer they looked but now I only ( if itās available) buy everything paperback āŗļø

Paperbacks are so much easier, but hardbacks look beautiful! One day, when I’m rich, I’ll have all the hardbacks!!

Haha thatās the dream! On and maybe a library with a ladder for all your hardbacks?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes absolutely !! No library is complete without a ladder like in Beauty and the Beast !!

Omigosh, Laura, I love your story over City of Bones. I totally have been there, and one day I’m sure I’ll be saying the same thing to that same book, LOL. And I so agree about love triangles! I used to write them all off, but The Infernal Devices really made me rethink that position – also These Vicious Masks series, which I know you read as well. This was so much fun to read as always, Laura, and I’m so glad that you’re back from hiatus. I know I’ve seen you around, but I have missed seeing your lovely blog posts!!! Thank you for the tag, and great post!!! ā¤

Hahaha thanks Mandy! That day was so embarrassing but I look back on it and laugh now! Yesssssss These Vicious Masks does the love triangle so well too – because it’s so respectful when she chooses someone!
Thank you so much Mandy!! I’m so happy to finally be back, I’ve missed posting šš

Ahahaha I bet! But glad it’s one of those you can laugh about now. And yes! I was torn between who I actually wanted because I loved both characters and both it and Infernal Devices were handled with a lot of respect for the ending for them. And yessssss! You don’t realize how much you miss it until you can’t do it. š

haha I find so funny that people cannot read and listen at the same time XD maybe ambient kind of music? Hardcovers vs paperbacks, yes, I agree with you! I love bookmarks and I want to have pretty bookmarks. Dog ears I don’t mind them that much XD

I can’t lol!! I get so distracted! I can dog ear library books, but not my own!! I like them to be pretty haha š

haha I like my new books pretty second handed ones are more though XD it is because I can only pay attention to one thing at the time so the music is to block the rest of the people and my attention is to the book… until I start thinking about what I have to do at work… but that is another thing XD

YAY WELCOME BACK!!!!! Thanks for the tag!!!! I bought City of Bones for the same reason. I just kept seeing it everywhere and then I was like “fiiiiiiine!!!!!”. I am so glad I picked it up because it ended up being one of my favourite series. I will forever agree that the love triangle in The Infernal Devices is the best one I have ever read. It is just SO BEAUTIFUL. And hells yes to Kings Rising!!!! I was actually re-reading it the other day because I love it so much!!! Great answers, I can’t wait to do this one!!!

I have to agree to disagree with you about Clare’s love triangles. They drive me crazy! Every time something love-triangle-related happens in those books I swear the people I am buddy reading with can hear my eyes rolling.
Also I love/hate Lolita and recently came across ‘The Real Lolita’ which is a nonfic about Sally Horner. Not sure if it’d interest you but I personally super keen to pick it up (my true crime nerd likes to come out and play)

š± BECCA! HOW DARE YOU! I kid, I kid (sort of). Nah, I get what you mean. In all honestly, I would have preferred the infernal devices love triangle to end in a poly relationship – although I have a feeling thats what happening in the dark artifices with Mark, Kieran and Cristina (the love triangle I really hate). I also didn’t care for the triangle between Simon, Clary and Jace, because we all knew who she’d choose.
I read briefly about Sally Horner, and the fact that author was inspired by that story kind of annoys me, even though I also love true crime. Idk, I think I have like a personal vendetta against that book lol

I havenāt read TDA so Iāll have to get back to you.
I think the sad thing about the Lolita story is that it isnāt made obvious itās based off a real case via a disclaimer or whatever,m or at least not in any of the reprints I have come across.
