April and May Wrap-Ups feat. THE END OF MY HIATUS

HI ALL!!!!

I’M SO HAPPY TO FINALLY BE BACK

tenor

I had to take a hiatus fro April through to May due to me trying to juggle uni, working two jobs and a whole lot of personal issues on top of that. Suffice to say, I REALLY needed a break.

Uni is now FINALLY over and I’m SOOOOOOOOOOO excited to return back to blogging. I’ve got heaps of untouched drafts building up, so here’s hoping I can get back to my usual schedule.

In the meantime, here’s my wrap up’s for the past two months — which is pretty much just me sharing the books I read 💕

Click on the above image to read my ★★★★★ review of the amazing Sky in the Deep. It’s a powerful debut with a kickass protagonist and a fascinating plot.

Book of the Month

595375Annie on My Mind is a classic lesbian YA novel from the 1980s and it’s a novel I wholeheartedly encourage people to read. It’s so important and really shows how far the LGBTQIAP+ community has come. I will warn that there should be a content warning for homophobia. Despite that, this is such a beautiful, sweet novel about two girls discovering their sexualities and falling in love.

★★★★★

Monthly Disappointment

NOTHING!

Every book I read in April — a lot of which were rereads — was amazing!

  • Check out my wrap up for my (sort of) reading challenge, mARCh Madness. This was a monthly reading challenge I set for myself where I would read NO ARCs, only backlist books.
  • In January, I wrote up a post about all the reading challenges I would attempt in 2018. Click on the image below to check out my 3-month check-in!

May Wrap Up

Books Read

11 books: 4 books, 2 webtoons, 1 novella, 1 graphic novel, 1 manga, 1 comic, 1 short story

The Henchmen of Zenda was KJ Charles’ newest novel about a morally grey antihero who gets caught up in a fight for the throne. It’s a retelling of Anthony Hope’s The Prisoner of Zenda – but gay.

You know you want to read it. But first, click on the image above to read my ★★★★★ review.

Book of the Month

IT’S A TIE!!

Leah on the Offbeat is Becky Albertalli’s newest novel and I was super hesitant to read it. Firstly, I was worried about a non-bisexual author writing a bisexual protagonist. Secondly, I really disliked The Upside of Unrequited, and was worried this book wouldn’t live up to the hype like Upside. However, I had nothing to worry about. It was an amazing novel.

Blood Bank is a dark webtoon about vampires – yes, I’m back on my vampire bullshit – and while it took me a while to get into it, the ending really pays off. Like Captive PrinceBlood Bank is dark and hard to read – I actually thought to DNF it a few times because I didn’t like one of the MC’s behaviour – but before I knew it, I fell in love with the characters, the world and the plot. Definitely read this, but beware of the content warnings: dubious consent, BDSM themes, murder, violence.

Monthly Disappointment

17465574I was so so so so so upset by Blue is the Warmest Colour. I was so excited to finally get the chance to read this book. I was tempted many times to buy a copy, and I’m so glad I found it at my local library instead, but I hated this graphic novel.

Check out my full review on Goodreads, which includes spoilers of the parts that really upset me.

Non-bookish Stuff

This month, I went and saw Avengers: Infinity War TWICE and IT WAS AMAZING. The first time I saw it, I was strapped to my seat, unable to process anything due to how much was happening on screen. The second time, I was able to actually enjoy the film and appreciate it. I still loved it the first time I saw it and cried a lot at the end, but there was so much action, it was hard to keep up and breathe! Did anyone else watch it?

trollhunters_28gif29I also binge-watched the final season of Trollhunters, which, if you don’t know, is my favourite show. This final season was so amazing and perfect, I had tears rolling down my eyes by the end of it. I’ll be rewatching this entire series soon – I do that a lot – but I’ll make sure to review each season on my blog!

I’m also watched season one of the new Lost in Space on Netflix, and I realllllllllllly enjoyed it, but, my God, how can one family have so much bad luck?

And lastly, I watched the first part of the final season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix!! No word on when the second part will come out yet, but if the first part was any indication, part two will be just as hilarious!!

So, that was what I did during April and May!! How were the months for everyone? Have the students finished uni yet? Are you reading some really good books or watching some great shows at the moment? Let me know! I’ve really missed everyone!!
