Hi all!
Oh my gosh, I was tagged in this so long ago and am just now getting to it. Apologies! My life always gets super busy from November to January each year, so all of my tags – and most of my blogging posts – get pushed aside! But I’m finally getting to them!
Thank you so much to Charlie Chatters for nominating me for this award! Everyone please go check out Charlie’s amazing blog here!!
Rules
- Thank the blogger who nominated you
- Write a post about the award
- Share a story of how and why you started your blog
- Offer at least two pieces of advice for new bloggers
- Pass on the nomination to another 15 bloggers
- Comment on each blog and let them know that you have nominated them (I believe if you link directly to one of their posts it will ping an automatic comment on that post)
How I started my blog, thebookcorps
- Basically, it’s my dream to work in the book industry one day, so I thought creating a blog about where I can talk about books – an outlet, if you will – would show my future, potential bosses how serious I am about books and publishing. That’s why all of my discussion posts focus on publishing.
My advice for new bloggers
- DON’T STRESS ABOUT YOUR BLOG NOT BEING COHESIVE OR PRETTY ENOUGH OR AS PROFESSIONAL AS OTHERS
I’ve been blogging for almost a year and a half and I have still yet to figure out what the hell my blog is about. It started off as a YA book review blog, and then briefly became a LGBTQ+ romance review blog, now it’s a mix of the two? Perhaps more focused on queer YA books now? I don’t really know. Also, my blog’s aesthetic and appearance changes every few months. Yours will too as you figure out what you like.
- IT’S OK TO DISAGREE WITH A POPULAR OPINION
What I mean by this is there are many issues that pop up in the book community, especially the YA community. Sometimes the issues raised by reviewers are valid. Sometimes they’re not. It’s very tempting to want to get into the conversation, and while I’m definitely not stopping you, it’s best to do that in a respectful way. I’m no expert on things, but I have sort of sat on the outskirts of many fights on Goodreads and Twitter, and I’ve seen how people’s words can hurt a fellow blogger, whether they intend to or not. I’ve always stayed out of the drama, because at the end of the day, I’m here for books. I’m really lucky to have found a great group of friends in the book community, so I kind of hang around them in the online sphere, but you can’t miss the drama that arises. I’m NOT calling out anyone by the way – I’m just letting new bloggers know that it’s ok to disagree with someone’s opinion, but what’s not ok is the way some people behave when someone has a difference of opinion.
I tag …
Stephanie @ Teacher of YA | Sue @ Sue’s Reading Corner | Jasmine @ How Useful It Is | Bec @ Bec and Bones | Steff @ Little Book Nook | Amber @ Ambs Reads | Lia @ Lost in a Story | Kayla @ Kayla’s Book Nook
Hope you all have fun, but please don’t feel obliged to do this if you don’t want to / have already done it!
❤️ Laura
the point about not stressing about your blog not being pretty enough is SO good, like even now i sometimes still compare mine to other people and its so stressful and puts you in such a downer 😦

I stress all the time! Every time I go on someone else’s blog, I’m like ‘wow it’s so much better than mine’. we need to remember that ours are just as good !

Ah thank you for nominating me!!! Great advice, especially about not stressing about blog design etc. My blog design is so standard and I honestly probably put about 15 minutes into it back when I started my blog hahaha.
