A POPULAR BOOK OR BOOK SERIES THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE
I don’t know what it is about this book that appeals to so many people, but I just hated it. The writing is super elementary, the protagonist was creepily childlike (I will never forget the scene where the 15-year-old MC discovered masturbation and then says ‘WOW!’ … I’m scarred), there was no plot, and the remaining characters were two-dimensional.
A POPULAR BOOK OR BOOK SERIES THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO HATE BUT YOU LOVE
Hate is a strong word, but I know a lot of people were disappointed and/or found it boring because it didn’t feature romance. This was more a coming-of-age story so I understand why the author didn’t include romance. Anyway, I adored this book and gave it 5 stars. It was a really sweet and positive story about a boy coming to terms with his sexuality. I highly recommend!
AN OTP THAT YOU DON’T LIKE
Rowan and Aelin. Guys, I just … don’t care about them anymore. They’re so boring. And it also feels like there’s no genuine love between the anymore, just lust. I’m so over them, but they are 100% endgame.
A POPULAR BOOK GENRE THAT YOU HARDLY REACH FOR
Contemporary. I’m not the biggest fan of contemporary books – ya’ll now I love my fantasy – but I do read and enjoy the occasional book. However, I only ever reach for a contemporary when I’ve been on a fantasy overload (by which I mean I’ve read too many fantasy books in a row and am sick of it).
A POPULAR/BELOVED CHARACTER THAT YOU DO NOT LIKE
Wow, I’m really hating on Aelin tonight, but I cannot stand Aelin Galathynius. She is one of the most annoying, arrogant characters I have ever come across, and what’s worse is she thinks she’s such a badass and she’s just not. She acts like this all-powerful Queen, but in reality she betrayed her people (which everyone conveniently forgets!!) and just threatens everyone when thinks don’t go her way. Just … no.
A POPULAR AUTHOR THAT YOU CAN’T SEEM TO GET INTO
I can’t get into John Green at all. Maybe it was because I wasn’t a part of the Tumblr generation that was obsessed with him (i.e. my sister’s generation; I was a few years older), or maybe because I find his books are just basically the same storyline regurgitated with slightly different characters, whatever the reason, I can’t get into his books. (He looks like he’s angry at me in this photo.)
A POPULAR BOOK TROPE THAT YOU’RE TIRED OF SEEING
INSTA-LOVE. I hate insta-love with a fiery passion. This isn’t even regulated to YA, I hate insta-love in any format: YA, NA (there’s a lot in this genre), adult, strictly romance, fantasy with romance, etc. Just stop, ok? Authors can write amazing romance stories without utilising this abhorrent trope. You even heard of a slow-burn?! I would die for a slow-burn romance any day, before I ever read another insta-love novel.
A POPULAR SERIES THAT YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN READING
I’m just not interested in this series at all. I actually own the first book and tried reading it – couldn’t get past page 40-something. I just found it boring, I guess. I can’t be bothered trying to force myself to read this series.
THE SAYING GOES “THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE”, BUT WHAT MOVIE OR TV SHOW ADAPTATION DO YOU PREFER MORE THAN THE BOOK?
I remember watching this movie in high school and cried FOR DAYS. I had to get my hands on the book, and luckily my school library had it. I read the novel in one sitting … and then threw it at the wall. The novel was just terrible – it only featured the bare bones of the story – while the movie was complex, incredible and engaging. Still don’t know how that happened.

Some great answers. Have heard very mixed to negative opinions on the Miss Peregrines series. Those opinions have been keeping it off my TBR list.
Love these posts. Good way of finding new blogs to follow 🙂

Thanks for the tag Laura. 🙂 I think Aelin is Celaena right? If she is, then I don’t like her either. I didnt continue on with that series because I hated her from page one. 😂 not once did I feel she deserved the reputation she was given. Tsk tsk. I thought I was going to steer clear of SJM books after this. Luckily, I tried ACOTAR and ended up loving that.

You’re welcome!! Yes Caelana is Aelin and you are so right to stay away from the series. It only gets worse, but there’s only 1 book left, so I have to read it 😭
Oh but I love ACOTAR too, it’s so amazing!! 😀

Oooooh, this was a lot of fun, Laura! I’m so with you about John Green books. I read one, and that was enough for me. Maybe it was the tumblr thing too? XD And oh gosh, that Perks thing had me laughing but so much scarring, I can imagine for Laura. XD (And you didn’t miss anything with the Miss Peregrine’s books. I read the entire first one and it was so much meh. The movie was worth a watching, though.) Thanks so much for tagging me, and I can’t wait to do it! Wonderful answers, Laura! 🙂

Yeah I think we must have missed the Tumblr obsession lol! Ugh I really hate Perks – I think I missed the obsession for that too ahah!!
Oh I might watch the movie then if it’s better than the books 😀
Hope you have fun with the tag Mandy 😀

OMG! Perks! haha I am part of that bunch that loved the book 😦 for me the narration or how the story is told makes me feel connected haha I think teenager’s life do not have much of a sense or plot… XD
John Green… I read Paper Towns and I did not like it at all… not the characters, not the plot, not the decisions made, or the reason to threw everything down the road for something so illogical, and I have heard the same thing about him, a friend read Looking for Alaska while I read Paper Towns and we came to the conclusion that everything is the same… (I still want to read The Fault XD)
Awesome post!

I think the reason I didn’t like Perks so much is because I wasn’t a part of that generation that fell in love with it? You know what I mean? I think I was just too old to connect with it – I only read it this year, as opposed to when everyone else became obsessed with it in their teen years. But I’m glad you connected with a book so much!!
The only John Green book I read was The Fault, and I did enjoy it, but not so much that I want to read his other books. My sister has read all of his books and loved him as a teen, but now hates them. And I have heard the endings from the two books were exactly the same ! I have watched the movie for Paper Towns and absolutely hated it. Ughhhh it makes me angry just to think about it – I hate that trope of loner boy meets and falls in love with unique/”not like other girls” girl. It’s just so lame and predictable.
Thank you!! 😀

Amén to all you said about John Green haha I hated that movie! So damn much! Only the soundtrack was good xD
I read Perks like 2/4 years ago 🙂 and I am a bit away from those teen years ❤ but I guess that we do come and go, love and hate some things. It all depends on the reaction and our age and what we want xD
Thank you for sharing! :3

I agree! It’s definitely about the reaction of our teen years 😀 Thank you!!

I’m literally just sitting here grinning like an idiot after reading your thoughts on Aelin, and thinking OH MY GOD this is so accurate. And I realized that I wouldn’t mind spending my night talking about how bossy and annoying she is (I’m such a horrible person). Also,I read the first book in the Miss Peregrine series and although I gave it a 5-stars rating, I don’t remember enjoying it all that much. Sometimes I get carried away when the book is overly-hyped and my thoughts on it wouldn’t be very genuine for some reason. I think I have a problem with middle grade books. Anyways, great post, Laura! 😍

yayayayay!! I’ve been waiting for you to see her that way, I think I commented on one of your reviews for the books and was like “just wait, everything changes” hahaha. She’s just a totally different person from who she used to be, you know. Like she’s always been bossy but I didn’t mind that – I like girls who know what they want. But in EoS she changed completely and just became really, really annoying. I also hate the way she treats other people and other royals. ALSO why does everyone conveniently forget that she abandoned her people and let them be enslaved while she was off partying and being an assassin? Like that’s just brushed over.
I’m not going to even bother with Miss Peregrine’s, but I know what you’re talking about. I used to give so many books 5 star ratings when they didn’t really deserve it ahaha
Thanks Nadwa 💕

I know, right?? Like, okay, you’re royalty, we get it, but so is Manon, apparently, and Dorian. Seriously, she doesn’t have the right to talk down to ANYONE. Royal or otherwise.

I AM WITH YOU ON AELIN. Ugh, over it, over her.
Also, Nicholas Sparks. A Walk to Remember was SUCH A GOOD MOVIE, but the book was so bleh. I can’t understand why people love his books so much, the 2 I’ve read were both dull compared to the books.
Fun tag! Hope you don’t mind me tagging myself. 😛

Yesssss!!!! She is the actual worst!
Oh I’m still annoyed at how bad the book was, but the movie was incredible!
Please go ahead and do that tag, it’s awesome 😀

Hi Laura, thanks for the tag! I dunno what happened to my original comment but was saying something about that girl from TOG. I didn’t even get to book 2. Haha. I disliked her so much in book one that would never touch any book in that series again, no matter how popular it is. I also see what you mean about A Walk to Remember. I feel the same way. 🙂

I agree with you on John Green books. I tried reading three of them and I can’t seem to like them as much as everyone else does.
I also don’t think you’re missing much by not wanting to read Miss Peregrines. I read the first one last year and thought it was okay, but I am not at all inclined to read the rest of the trilogy.

I just feel like John Green’s a bit overrated. I know a lot of people are already obsessing over his new novel coming out soon, and I have absolutely no interest haha
Oh that’s good!! I won’t even bother with Miss Peregrine’s series 😀

I thought I am the only one who doesn’t like The Perks of Being a Wallflower!
When it comes to John Green, I really liked The Fault in Our Stars, but every other book by him I ever read just annoyed me or made me angry.
