The Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag!

I found this tag over on Grace @ Quirky and Peculiar’s blog and thought it was a great way to gush about the first half of the year’s books and reading, and discuss the books that will come out in the last half!

#1- The best book you’ve read so far in 2017

I can’t choose between these two books! My Lady Jane is a hilarious, romantic, happy-ending take on the tragic life of Lady Jane Grey. I loved every moment of this novel. Strange the Dreamer features some of the most amazing worldbuilding I’ve seen in a very long time. The characters, the story, the setting … everything is perfect and incredible. I can’t wait for the next and final novel.

#2- Your favourite sequel of the year

Again, I can’t choose. Both of these novels were incredible in many ways. These Ruthless Deeds ripped my heart out and stomped on it – that ending was, well, ruthless. Lord of Shadows, while slow, was devastating and epic.

#3- A new release that you haven’t read but really want to

historyisallyouleftme

This book came out in January and I bought it almost immediately, but still haven’t found time to read it! That’s probably because you need to be in the right frame of mind to read a Silvera novel – I just know I’m going to be a sobbing mess by the end, so I need to prepare myself.

#4- Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

thegentlemans

Ughhhhhhhh I WANT THIS BOOK SO SO SO MUCH! I have been rejected 3 times for an ARC and every time it kills me a little. I already know I’m going to love this book from the second I read the blurb last year. June 27 can’t come fast enough!!!! (I even took the day off of work so I can read it lol.)

#5- Your biggest disappointment

While these books are enjoyable, they were still ultimately disappointing. ACOWAR was a mess at times, and I’m steadily growing to dislike Feyre. Upside was a fantastic idea, but poorly executed.

#6- Biggest surprise of the year

peterdarling

This novel was beautiful, adventurous and romantic. I can’t rave about it enough. I love the dynamic between Hook and Peter – so incredible.
Peter Darling review

#7- Favourite new to you or debut author

One of Us is Lying is an incredible debut and I am definitely going to be reading more from Karen M. McManus!

#8- Your new fictional crush
timekeeper

Colton from Timekeeper is such a sweetheart! He has such an innocent view of the world and this incredible empathy for everyone and everything around him.

#9- New favourite character

theseviciousmasks

Evelyn from These Vicious Masks is a badass magic wielder. Definitely a new favourite and I can’t wait to read more about her in the final novel in the series.

#10- A book that made you cry

salttothesea

Wow, this book was intense. A harrowing yet beautiful tale of a relatively unknown maritime disaster set during WWII with unforgettable characters.
Salt to the Sea review

#11- A book that made you happy

While technically short stories, these books definitely made me ridiculously happy. I love reading about Damen and Laurent being happy, in love and ruling together. I wish these stories will never end. ❤

#12- Your favourite book to movie adaptation that you’ve seen this year

English

Not a book-to-movie, but a book-to-TV adaptation that is freaking unbelievable. Seriously, it’s incredible and I am going to be rewatching it these holidays because it’s the best show ever!

#13- Favourite book post you’ve done this year

It would be a tie between my article about Hating on YA fiction and the Pride and Prejudice book tag I created with a fellow blogger!

#14- The most beautiful book you have bought/received this year

prideandprejudice

Definitely this copy of an illustrated Pride and Prejudice! It’s stunning and mindblowingly beautiful. (This is my photo.)

#15- What are some books you need to read by the end of the year

Some books coming out this year, a few others that have been on my TBR for ages!

I wasn’t tagged so I won’t tag anyone, but if you want to do this tag, go ahead! It’s lots of fun 😀

Ohhhh you need to read it! I can’t gush about this book enough – it’s hilarious, romantic, suspenseful … it’s one of the best YA books out there, hands down. (And I didn’t think I would like it that much when I borrowed it).
