Thank you so much to Maxine @ The Rogue Storyteller and Angelica @ The Book Cover Girls for both nominating me for this award! Both these girls write wonderful reviews and are such a sweet people to talk to. Everyone please go check out their amazing blogs!
Rules
- Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
- Answer the questions.
- In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
- Ask them three questions.
Maxine’s Questions
1. What’s your favourite retelling of a story/folktale? This can be in the form of a book or movie.
She’s the Man based upon William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. That movie still remains one of my favourites today, and I can still quote almost every line from it. Also: Channing Tatum.
2. Are there any characters that you think deserved a better ending than they got?
SPOILERS: Definitely Matthias from Crooked Kingdom and Nicaise from Captive Prince. Both of those characters deserved so much better – I understand Nicaise’s death, but not Matthias’.
3. If you could be any book character for a day, who would it be and why?
Clary Fray from The Mortal Instruments series. I’d be a kickass warrior with an awesome group of friends. Also: Jace. (Not the TV Clary who is annoying, I mean the book one).
Angelica’s Questions
1. What is a popular book that you absolutely hate?
The Raven King by Maggie Steifvater. I was so incredibly disappointed by that last book that I can’t even put my hate into words. Like, what happened? Did Stiefvater let the story get away from her? Did she just set up too much in the previous books and didn’t have a conclusion for each individual character, and so panicked and just wrote down anything due to the deadline? Because that’s what it felt like. Still don’t understand how people love this book. The conclusion literally did not make any sense
2. If you could bring a fictional character to life, who would it be?
Percy from The Percy Jackson series! He’s so funny and charming, and just the sweetest character. He would be a laugh to have around and I’d want him as my friend.
3. What is your biggest book pet peeve?
People making excuses for popular authors while verbally bashing not-so popular authors. (This is based purely from my experience, I understand you might not get what I’m talking about) For e.g.: Maggie Stiefvater has come under storm at the moment for alleged misrepresentation of culture within her novel All the Crooked Saints that is to be released in October. A lot of people are coming to her defence and writing long posts attacking those reviewers who are giving one stars or complaining about the book on Goodreads. However, a few of these defenders (that I’ve seen on Goodreads) have also verbally bashed other authors for doing the same as Stiefvater. It just really irks me how some people allow a specific, select group of authors to get away with certain things while everyone else must be held to a higher standard. (Not naming anyone in particular, nor am I excusing misrepresentation, or bagging Maggie Stiefvater – I just think everyone should be treated the same).
My questions
- I know we’re all mainly YA readers on here, so what is your favourite adult fiction novel?
- Enough with the heroes, they’re boring. Who is your favourite book villain?
- Will you ever lend a book to a friend? Why/Why not? Any horror stories?

Your pet peeve is something that I’ve seen too much of, and not just readers bashing authors, but readers bashing each other.

Yeah it’s something that really irks me. Oh yes, readers bashing readers I have seen far too much – it’s abhorrent and unnecessary.

It really is, the bashing of readers has made me question whether or not I actually want to be in the community sometimes.

Yeah, I’ve considered leaving Goodreads (that’s where I mainly see the bashing, I’ve been lucky enough not to see it on WordPress), but I depend on it so much. So whenever I see people acting like that, I delete them as a friend.

Ah, thankfully I’m not really on Twitter that much. I only post a link to my review pretty much, but my sister is on Twitter all the time and she says the bullying on there is intense.

I loved reading your answers and definitely agree with Matthias getting a poor ending and also book Clary being way better than tv Clary. Percy would be such a fun guy to hang out with in real life, great choice!

Thank you!! Poor Matthias. I’m still not over that.

You answers tell me that I have some series I need to catch up on 😉 I also understand what you are saying about popular authors seemingly receiving constant support and justification while indie and lesser known writers can receive a real bashing! I have noted this a few times.

Yes, get reading!! It angers me to no end when I see people who viciously go after authors for issues in their novel, while excusing popular authors who do the same. It’s not right. Thank you!

I think it’s the same in different forms of art – the “chosen ones” can do no wrong and will always be defended.

Percy and that whole group would be a blast to hang out with. However, you’d probably end up traveling to the Underworld and getting blasted with a lightning bolt or something. Still, fun either way!
When I saw you tagged me I went ahead and did this. I love a good tag. Thanks!

Congratulations, Laura! ^^ And thank you so much for the nomination, means a lot ❤ I'll try to do this one in the future. I've already done it once, if you want to check it out 🙂
I loved She's The Man! It's one of those movies that bring back tons of good memories.
It's too bad what happens in the book/blogging world from time to time… I sometimes avoid Twitter and other social media just because of how toxic they can get. It's like, one day everything's fine and two hours later, it just bursts into flames! It's insane…
Hopefully, things will calm down soon 😉 Also, may I suggest a spoiler alert for that Percy answer? You know, just in case people haven't read it yet and it's a big one!
Great post 🙂

Thanks! I hope you get the chance to do it ❤

Loved your answers! Totally agree about Nicaise and Matthias, Especially since the I feel like Matthias’ death served no purpose other than to have someone die. And yes about Percy! I love him! He would be so fun to be around! And from what I hear about Maggie Stiefvatter a lot of people are hating on the book and already giving negative reviews to the book that hasn’t even come out. I hate when authors misbehave but people also need to relax. The book isn’t even out and already people are judging. I feel like we should all behave. As reviewers, we are allowed to say what we want and the author should be alright with that. But we can’t review something we’ve never read so that too is annoying. Anyway, I’m getting off topic, and I totally got your point. I hate when people let some authors get away with things and others are criticized for them. Great post!

I am still not over Matthias and never will be. I would have been okay with it – upset, but okay – if it had served a purpose, but it didn’t. It felt like he only died so no one would get irked that one of the main cast didn’t die because that’s not realistic and blah blah blah. It was just a strange scene.
It does annoy me when people rate a book before it has been released (unless you’ve read an ARC, which so far nobody has). I have no problem with people posting reviews and warning people about what they think might be in the novel – because at the end of the day Goodreads is a community for reviewers to discuss – but not rating the actual book. We can make judgements when the novel is out.
It just angers me to no end when I see people defending authors like Stiefvater (who had some abhorrent lines about an Asian character in her Raven Cycle series) and Maas (I don’t even want to get started on her), but then viciously go after new authors who don’t feature diversity, or they talk about something in their novel that can be interpreted as prejudicial. It is very hipocritical. We should hold every author to the same standard, not allow some to get away with things and others get told off.
Hahah not off topic at all, they closely relate!
Thank you 😀

I want going to mention Maas earlier but since I know how many people love her I thought it best not to offend people. But I hate how people glorify her while hating others who do the same! I have seen the same reviewers go on and on about diversity and the lack of it in other books and yet hail all the praise onto her and her all white cast! And I will forever be mad about Matthias!!

Lol I am scared to mention Maas on Goodreads for that very mention. Here, it’s my blog, it’s my opinion and everyone is lovely on here. 😀

That’s true. People here seem much more rational sometimes. Goodreads is a dangerous place to say something about her and a lot of other authors!
