March Wrap Up: The Month I Pretended School Didn’t Exist

Hi all!

So another month is behind us and I have found myself settling in to uni life by pretending that it doesn’t exist and procrastinating by reading. So, like what I did for my Bachelor. Ah well.

Books read:

Best Book of the Month:strangethedreamer

Absolute perfection. Everyone is going to love this book.

Monthly Disappointment:

theupsideofunrequited

While still an enjoyable book, my expectations were a lot higher, most likely due to how much I loved Albertalli’s debut novel Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda. There was simply very little plot and the character’s were not fully fleshed-out people. download

Books reviewed:

ifechidere

my-lady-jane

A hilarious, fantastical and romantic rewrite of Lady Jane Grey’s tragic story with shapeshifters. So far, this is my favourite novel of the year.

strangethedreamer

An utterly unique and magical fantasy about gods, librarians, and a two hundred year shameful secret. Out-of-this-world wonderful.

theupsideofunrequited

A coming-of-age story about a seventeen year old girl who’s life is turned upside down when her twin sister gets a girlfriend, and then she finds herself falling for two very different boys.download

historyisallyouleftmeBooks Purchased:

I can’t wait to read this book, but I have to REALLY be in the mood for an Adam Silvera novel and, as of yet, I have not been. His books are incredibly sad and poingnant and I just know I’m going to cry when I read this book. Hopefully I can read it sometime during April (probably when school essays get too stressful and I want to cry).

Extra Content:

yaThis month I wrote up an article called Hating on YA, about how adults who read YA fiction are treated by the book community. I was in *a mood* after I had read one too many articles bagging YA fiction. Check it out if you want to feel indignant.

I also collected 9 amazing literary journalism articles. I’m taking a journalism class this year at university and at the moment we are researching feature articles. Investigative journalism falls under that umbrella and they are some of the best things I have ever read. Check out the articles.

Blog Awards:

This month I was nominated for my second Sunshine Blogger Award! Click on the button below to see the award, my answers, and the people I nominated in turn!

This month I discovered an amazing show on Netflix called One Day at a Time. The show is a reboot of the 1970s sitcom, but featuring a Cuban family instead! The show focuses on single mother Penelope, returned from serving in the army as a nurse, trying to raise her teenage feminist social justice daughter and charming, slightly vain tween son, with the help of her stereotypical Cuban mother. The show is hilarious, but incredibly poignant too. There were many moments I started crying. Every character is unique and fully fleshed-out individuals. I can’t wait to watch season 2!

I also started binge-watching Malcolm in the Middle! That show is ridiculously funny and Lois and Hal are the worst/best parents ever.

April TBR

Strange mix of books, I know. Let’s see how many I actually read now that my school assignments are piling up.

March was a pretty good month! Here’s to an even better April 😀

-Laura ❤

How was your March?! What books did you read? 😀

What a great month you have had! You have also done the impossible and peaked my interest away from Stranger The Dreamer (as a massive Liani fan) with Peter Darling – first time I have heard of this title – definitely adding onto my TBR.

Art of Being Normal is a fantastic book, so hopefully brightens your April TBR! 🙂

Omg I hope you enjoy it if you read it! Peter Darling was so beautiful and such an amazing retelling.
Oh, I’m glad! The Art of Being Normal is something I’ve wanted to read for ages, and I found it at my local library a few days ago

GREAT JOB, BECAUSE READING SO MUCH REQUIRES SO MUCH PATIENCE! ❤💛 And oh, I know I’m saying this the second time(the first time being when you posted your review of Peter Darling) but the cover of Peter Darling is so pretty gosh. 😻

I feel the same way about school not existing this month! Though I didn’t read as many books as you, I still managed to get through eight books. One of the books on you wrap up sounded really interesting to me and that was, We Should All Be Feminists. Being a feminist myself, I feel I would really enjoy it. Did you like it?

Eight books is still amazing! I’ve got a feeling I won’t read near as many books this month. All of my assignments are starting to pile up 😀
You will love We Should All Be Feminists. It’s a very short essay, but it’s very personal too. I wish I had read it sooner!
