The Zombie Apocalypse:

 

A book you would save when civilisation ends:

I thought this would be difficult, but I came up with my answer pretty quickly: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I don’t think I could live without this book and reading it during the apocalypse would result in the reintroduction of manners at the end of the world. Also, Darcy.

The Vampire:

 

A book you would stake through the heart (in whatever sense):

Paper Princess by Erin Watt. I was so disappointed in this book and I hated what it represents. The book reeks of sexism, victim-blaming and slut-shaming. I would find the nearest stake and stab it through the heart. I wonder if it would burst into dust like the Vamps in Buffy the Vampire Slayer because it’s pure evil!

The Haunted House:

 

A book that still haunts you:

Cheating a little as I’m going to mention a series: the Captive Prince trilogy by C.S. Pacat. The final book in the series ripped my heart into a million pieces, but the second one was perfect, sweet and just rife with top-notch characterisation as well as the most beautiful slow-burn romance I have ever read.

The Psychological Thriller:

 

A book with a twist you did not see coming:

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera. I am usually the best at discerning twists – I can sniff them out from a mile away – but Silvera’s twist shook me to my core. I still think about this book and how incredible it was. Read it, please!

The Creepy Doll:

 

A book that seems innocent but isn’t:

Cheating again with a book series: All for the Game series by Nora Sakavic. The books are supposed to be about a made-up sport but it’s actually about so much more. It’s about friendship, heartbreak, crime, murder, kidnapping and, somewhere along the way, romance. It’s touchingly beautiful and will stay with you a long time.

The Monster:

 

A book you could barely tackle/defeat (in whatever sense)

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. That book was incredible and Maas at her absolute best. I wanted to devour it in a heartbeat and I wanted it never to end. Worlds better than her other series, and if the final book is bad, I will sue.

The Comedy-Horror:

 

A book with mixed genres that worked (or didn’t):

Wolfsong by TJ Klune. This book was a mixture of paranormal / romance / comedy and it totally worked. I could not put the book down to save my life – it was perfection and I recommend this to everyone!

The (Cliched) Teen Horror:

 

A book you found super cliched/stereotypical:

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I thought I would love this book but I found it so stereotypical. It’s like Chbosky googled “What does a teenager act like?” and copied it word for word into his book. Could not deal with it.

The Demonic Possession: 

 

 A book so gripping you needed an exorcist to escape it:

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I could not put this down – I actually read it one day even though it’s over 500 pages. Magic, comedy and romance – yes, please!

The Science Fiction:

 

A precious book you would permanently give to the aliens for the good of mankind:

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It would kill me to give this book up but it’s so touching and beautiful, the aliens invading our planet would turn back around and never bother us again.
